Types of automation testing in selenium

Acceptance testing

In acceptance testing, testers write software acceptance test cases, then use them to assess the application or system performance. The results of acceptance testing are used to determine whether the software meets the business requirements. It is used to test the performance and functionality of the system. The tests are conducted based on the requirements and the system behavior during testing, in order to validate the requirements for the system. This type of automation testing is done to ensure that the software provides its users the desired functionalities with minimum cost and time. Acceptance testing includes the following:

User acceptance testing (UAT)

For this, the tester writes an automated acceptance test script, which validates the functional and non-functional requirements of the application. UAT requires the tester to understand the requirements of the system and to write the automation script for them. These scripts have to be tested and validated in order to ensure that the system functions correctly. This includes testing the system from both functional and non-functional perspectives, and analyzing the system from multiple angles. This type of testing is done when an application is to be delivered.

Regression testing

This type of testing is carried out after every new release of the application, in order to ensure that the system’s functionalities and non-functionalities have not been changed. This type of testing is done to ensure that the system’s changes are properly tested, and to prevent system errors due to the changes. This type of testing helps developers in testing and debugging the application changes, and helps testers in finding the errors in the changes.

Performance testing

This type of testing is carried out by writing the acceptance test scripts and performing regression tests. However, unlike UAT, the testing here is done on a live system to see if the application is able to function correctly and perform at a satisfactory speed.

Load testing

This type of testing involves writing the acceptance test scripts and executing them on a large number of virtual machines. In load testing, the test case execution is compared to the actual execution on a physical machine.

Usability testing

This type of testing is designed to ensure that a user can easily interact with the system and can understand the system’s functionality and interface. The usability tests are performed using an actual system under test (AUT) and an ordinary user. The tasks to be performed during usability testing include answering a question about a screen, clicking on a particular link, completing a dialog box and other actions.

Acceptance testing

This is the automated process of verifying the acceptance criteria, which are the functional requirements of the application.
